Sugar on Snow is a blog dedicated to lesbian mothers, particularly those who live in rural areas. I also intend to touch a bit on veganism, as this is an important aspect of our lives.
I started this blog in 2017, a few months after we found out that my wife was pregnant with our first child. Initially, I struggled with understanding my role as a non-gestational mother and it was here that I worked through those issues. Being a mom has been the most amazing experience, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
I am now embarking on another new experience — after miscarriage, I gave birth to our our rainbow baby in March of 2020. This is my second child, born of my first pregnancy.
My goal is to continue chronicling our beautiful little life as a queer vegan couple in rural Vermont. To maintain privacy, I try not to post photos that show faces square-on, while also attempting to give a pictorial glimpse into our world. After months of referring to my oldest daughter on this blog simply as Baby, I now use my daughter’s nickname, Pidge. For our second daughter, I use the nickname Piper or Plove, for the little piping plover birds that nest along the North Atlantic.
This is not an advice blog, although I am happy to share advice and insight if it is sought. Posts can be found on the “Posts” page, organized by topic. My posts are sometimes infrequent, but I always welcome comments and I will try my best to respond to any questions.
